Travel & Visa

Do I need a visa to visit Sri Lanka?

Most nationalities require a tourist visa (ETA — Electronic Travel Authorisation) which can be obtained online at www.eta.gov.lk for a small fee. We recommend applying at least 72 hours before departure. Citizens of some countries may be eligible for visa-on-arrival. Please verify current requirements with the Sri Lanka Tourism website.

Sigiriya enjoys a relatively dry, pleasant climate year-round. The best periods are January–April (dry season, ideal for climbing) and July–September (elephant gathering season at Minneriya). December–January is peak season. We recommend avoiding May–June (southwest monsoon reaches the area).

No mandatory vaccinations are currently required for Sri Lanka. However, we recommend consulting your GP or a travel health clinic before travel. Hepatitis A, Typhoid, and standard routine vaccinations are generally advised. Mosquito repellent is recommended for evening hours.
